Atmosphere in the cube (1996)
Starting from this work, Neoismo begin their experimental musical journey leading them to have an identity as a band. Since this moment Neoismo songs cannot be easily classified in any musical genre. They freely evolve, leaded by the three mad cells of the group (emiliano, flavio t e flavio d).
This work starts with the pure and spacious rock of Silence, with the intro by Gesualdo da Venosa (madrigalist between '500 and '600) and the distorted guitar, abolished in the first works of Neoismo. The "experimental tapping" period begins. Vega goes back to the typical dark sound of the band, the lyrics obsessively repeating that something could change throughout the whole song. 25th hour is a kind of prog-metal with powerful guitar stops, strange arpeggiating keyboards and double pedal drums.
Figure dance is where the group starts venturing in electronic music, nonethenless in an experimental way. Sequences is one of the best songs of the band with progressive synth and guitar riffs and a colossal coda supported by classical harmonies. Plastic Age has a great sliding keyboard riff, the lirycs talk about the negative influence technology may have on man. This piece is to point out because of its mirror structure: from the second half, the song proceeds by retrogradating all the melodies of the first half! it is an example of Neoismo's hidden tie with classical tradition.
Networks describes the feeling of mental confusion produced by mass-media and the distorted information they provide. The last song is Atmosphere in the cube, which gives the title to the work, starts with a very melodic harpsichord theme and ends up with a progressive final section with guitar tappings and odd tempos.
